Overview

To tackle the challenge of ineffective personal finance management, our objective was to create an intuitive and engaging financial app. Catering to novice and experienced savers, the user-friendly tool simplifies expense tracking and promotes healthier financial habits, providing a seamless experience in achieving savings goals.

My Role

I am the sole UI/UX Designer exclusively dedicated to this product.

Problem

The core challenge was to create a user-friendly money-saving app that did not demand excessive personal data but could effectively help individuals develop better financial habits. My hypothesis was that people would be more willing to use an app that prioritized privacy and simplicity while still delivering tangible financial benefits.

Competitive Analysis

Our analysis reveals that some competitors excel in specific features, such as budget forecasting, expense categorization, or investment tracking. Identifying gaps in our feature set and addressing them can help us stay competitive. Privacy and security concerns are paramount for users. Ensuring a robust privacy policy and highlighting our commitment to data security can set us apart.

User Survey & Analysis

The results of the survey have validated my initial hypotheses. Privacy and security emerged as the top priorities for our users, with a significant percentage expressing a preference not to link their accounts. The concept of 'the latte factor' has demonstrated that tracking and managing expenses is gaining prominence as a key motivator for users, as it encourages awareness and curbing of small expenditures to promote saving. Given these insights, my primary focus will be on developing an app with an exceptionally user-friendly expense-tracking feature.

Information Architecture

With a clear goal in mind, I initiated the process of mapping out the user experience. My approach involved creating a user interface that featured a central main page presenting essential financial information, complemented by a convenient 'quick add' button for seamless access to the expense page. To amplify motivation and introduce a gamification element aimed at encouraging users to save more effectively, I conceptualized the inclusion of a lottery feature as part of the goal-reaching rewards system. Drawing inspiration from popular events like the Super Bowl poll and the 50/50 draw, users would have the opportunity to contribute to a pool lottery, with only a select few emerging as lucky winners.
